With over 40 reviews from various outlets, Bloodborne’s Metacritic rating is sitting at a 93, putting it as the highest-rated exclusive on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. In terms of overall rankings, only Grand Theft Auto V (97) and The Last of Us Remastered (95) are ahead of Bloodborne.
In our Bloodborne review, we said, “The PlayStation 4 finally has its exclusive killer RPG. Bloodborne is punishingly hard, but like the Souls series, not unfairly so.”
Of course, not everyone is excited about Bloodborne, with one Metacritic user review giving it a 0/10 and saying:
Mediocre **** for sony fanboys because they don’t have games. I feel pity for them that don’t have games so they need to cling to mediocre games. You are all vinrgins that need to get laid.
In a new Making Of video for Bloodborne, Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida and members of the development team discuss how the game came to be:
If you skipped the video and are worried about the difficulty in Bloodborne, Sony Japan Studio Producer Masaaki Yamagiwa said:
I’ve always felt that when people look at Bloodborne as a difficult game, it might put a portion of players off, even before they get the chance to play it for themselves.
Sure, I do think it’s challenging, but for anyone who likes games and enjoys coming up with strategies, it is a challenge that can be overcome.
Did you ever expect the critical reception for Bloodborne to be so high?
