On the same day it was revealed that BioWare Austin’s Shadow Realms is now cancelled, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said at the 2015 Technology, Internet and Media Conference (via GameSpot) that BioWare has a “couple of new pieces of IP that are very exciting.”
He wouldn’t go into details, but when explaining the Shadow Realms cancellation, BioWare Austin General Manager Jeff Hickman revealed that the studio is helping develop those new IP:
While the team did amazing work on the game concept and we got lots of great feedback from our fans at events and through other game testing, right now there are other projects for the team to work on within the BioWare studios for the coming year and beyond. We’ve got an incredibly talented team here at the Austin studio, and they are excited and already deep on new projects within the BioWare family, ones that will make some great BioWare games even better.
These include additional ongoing enhancements to the award-winning Dragon Age: Inquisition, as well as the next game in the Mass Effect series and other new IP.
Hickman adds that their biggest focus is on Star Wars: The Old Republic.
As for Dragon Age’s future, Jorgensen confirmed that a new game in the series won’t be out this year, but they do see a huge opportunity for the franchise in the future:
Longer-term, we’re very excited. BioWare, they just won Game of the Year at the DICE Awards. We’re very excited about the success of that team and what we can do with that team. I think there’s a huge opportunity for [Dragon Age].
When Dragon Age Inquisition launched this past November it set a record for fastest-selling BioWare title.
