Report: Netflix Believes 4K Video Support is Coming to PS4 This Fall

In a report from CES 2015 last month, the Huffington Post spoke with Netflix Chief Product Office Neil Hunt, who said Sony had “promised” a hardware revision to the PlayStation 4, allowing it to support 4K video capability.

Earlier this month, Forbes contacted Netflix for further information about 4K on PS4, but they didn’t provide any official details. However, they were able to say that Hunt believes both the PS4 and Xbox One will add 4K support as part of the two-year hardware refresh, expected to happen in either October or November.

When asked for comment, Sony declined to confirm Netflix’s estimation, though they did say 4K is in consideration:

Support for high-resolution 4K output for still images and movie content is in consideration, but there are no further details to share at this time.

As for games, Sony added, “The PS4 does not currently support 4K output for gaming.” This is almost the exact same response we received in October 2013.

Also in 2013, Shuhei Yoshida told IGN right after the console’s announcement that the PS4 will support 4K videos and photos, yet we haven’t heard anything since.

Do you hope the PS4 gets 4K video support this year?
