EA: New Need for Speed “Looking Spectacular,” Star Wars Battlefront Has Huge Potential

As part of the EA financial earnings call yesterday following their Q3 report, CEO Andrew Wilson looked at the upcoming slate of releases for the company in fiscal year 2016 (April 2015 – March 2016).

First off, EA Sports PGA Tour has seen a bit of a delay and will now launch in Q1 (April 2015 – June 2015). Wilson says this is “in line with some of golf’s biggest tournaments, and it will be joined by our line-up of annual EA Sports titles next year.” He didn’t talk about this year’s Madden, NHL, and FIFA entries, but those should release in August/September like they normally do.

Switching to a couple other games, the new Need for Speed from Ghost Games is “already looking spectacular” according to Wilson, and it “will return in FY ’16.” Star Wars Battlefront, meanwhile, is still set to release in holiday 2015 to coincide with the launch of the new movie.

CFO Blake Jorgensen talked a bit about Battlefront:

We’re extremely excited about that and we think there is huge potential for that title. More to come in the next couple of months on that as more about the movie comes out, as well as more about our titles comes out, but you should consider that a very large activity for us next year and very large focus, similar to how we thought about Battlefields in the past.

We’ll have to wait until EA’s next quarterly earnings call to find out their full FY ’16 calendar.

If you don’t want any new games this year, Wilson said, “Players in our current experiences, including Dragon Age Inquisition, The Sims 4, the EA Sports portfolio, and Battlefield 4 will continue to see updates and new content in the future.”

Elsewhere in the call, Wilson said EA will focus on player relationships, “quality at every turn, stability in our services, and delivery of long-lasting fun with games that are played for months and years, not just days or weeks,” with investments going towards new IP and innovation as well.
