Ivory Tower: No New Areas Planned for The Crew Yet As Players Have Enough to Explore

In the February 2015 issue of the EDGE magazine, developer Ivory Tower has disclosed that it doesn’t plan to add any new areas to The Crew yet as players already have enough to explore as it is. Design Director Stephane Beley said:

At the moment I’d prefer not to add to the world. It’s already enough for players. But we’ll see what happens in the future – it won’t be Canada or Mexico, though.

However, players will get some additional features via upcoming updates. These include an “exploration camera” and an option to create movies.

We have a camera better suited for exploration in the pipeline, but it’s something we’ll update in the future. I had to decide to cut it for launch due to time constraints; development was a long run, and the baby really needed to go!

This is really just the start, and we’ll keep updating the community with, for example, an exploration camera and the ability to create movies and things like that.

A free update in the future will also bring Instant Challenge races, which will allow players to race anyone around them within a session or a crew.

Elsewhere in the interview, Beley disclosed that Ivory Tower pitched The Crew to Ubisoft seven years ago under the working title of Route 66, and there were plans to include Data Stations in the game. “It’s something that’s completely natural for me, and a simple way to unlock areas,” he said.

The Crew is available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC. You can read our review of the game here.
