Inside Assassin’s Creed Unity (here’s our review), Ubisoft included the option to buy in-game Helix Credits for real-world money, with prices ranging from $19.99 USD for 1,400 Helix Credits to $99.99 for 20,000 Helix Credits. You can then use the Helix Credits to unlock hackable features such as upgrades and maps, as seen in the above images.

When IGN contacted Ubisoft about the micro-transactions, a spokesperson said, “Every item in the game is unlockable through the normal progression.”

They continued:

The player progression and economy is tailored to NOT push the player to pay. Everything is balanced in a way that the player will never feel forced to buy, but rather to keep playing the game to access better gear and become stronger. Monetization in ACU is limited to time-savers (access to advanced equipments earlier, etc).

Ubisoft has “nothing to share at this time” regarding future Assassin’s Creed titles, and they have no plans to release the full pricing list for Helix Credits in Unity.

What do you think about the Helix Credits? Do you find the game is designed so you never need to buy them?
