With the July announcement that Ubisoft Quebec is leading development of a new Assassin’s Creed, it will give usual Assassin’s Creed lead developers Ubisoft Montreal more time to work on future installments, which is exactly what they’re looking for.
As VP of Creative Lionel Raynaud told CVG recently, “In Montreal, we wanted to have more time to work on the Assassin’s Creed franchise.”
Since Ubisoft Quebec has helped with previous Assassin’s Creed titles, Raynaud says, “We were happy for that to happen and because we have strong experience we’re also helping them a lot on the game they’re making right now.”
Because they’ve released so many Assassin’s Creed games every year in Montreal, Raynaud admits, “Sometimes we wish we had more time to make decisions and experiment on stuff.” After adding how he’s concerned by the “tense rhythm” time constraints put on the development teams, Raynaud continued:
There are things we know we can do in Assassin’s Creed and things we assume we can’t, and I often stop and ask, ‘why can’t we do those things? What do we need to be able to try?’
However, he does say that time restrictions force you to “always take very good player-focused decisions” and “make faster decisions,” so there is value to it.
There’s very little known about Ubisoft Quebec’s Assassin’s Creed title right now, other than the fact it’s a new-gen-only project.
