October 2014 Must Plays
October 2014 Must-Play Gallery
October had a number of great horror games release as well as a much more tame Halloween themed title. Which games from October should you be playing? We've got the list for you right here.
Dust: An Elysian Tail
Dust originally released on the Xbox Live Arcade platform for the Xbox 360. In November, PlayStation owners got to experience the wonderful and highly praised world of Dust for themselves, and Plus members even got the game for free. If you missed this one as a free download, it is still one that is well worth picking up.
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel
It's a prequel to the second game, but a sequel to the first. Oh, and you can play as Claptrap. Even though The Pre-Sequel released on the last generation of consoles, it more than held up to the Borderlands name and provided an awesome and hilarious game that makes us anticipate a current generation Borderlands title. Costume Quest 2
The first Costume Quest was another enjoyable venture from the minds of Tim Schafer and Double Fine, and the announcement of a follow up was a joy to many. Our reviewer is still finalizing her review, but she does say that this game lives up to the first in every way. It's even a great game not around Halloween!
Freedom Wars
Described as a "must-have" for Vita owners, Freedom Wars is the Sony handheld's little secret. Some disappointment for the drab story and environments aside, Freedom Wars manages to have enough going for it to make our list as a "solid grind" for the Vita. Read our full Freedom Wars review here , as well as the original import review here.
Lords of the Fallen
Being called by some the "best RPG currently on the PS4," Lords of the Fallen is an impressive feat that truly shows us what the new generation of consoles is capable of. Noting the the last-gen versions were canceled in favor of not holding back the potential of the game, this is truly a title that fans of deep fantasy RPGs will want to get their hands on.
The Evil Within
From the mind of Resident Evil 4's creator, Shinji Mikami, The Evil Within is a psychological thriller that opts for more creepiness and gore. Our reviewer called it a must-buy for horror fans and anyone looking for a challenge. Read our full The Evil Within review here.
The October 2014 Game of the Month is...
What could possibly be left in October to earn high enough praise to be considered our Game of the Month? That game is...
Alien Isolation
While Alien: Colonial Marines was a critical failure , Alien: Isolation offered a chance at redemption for the series, and did it ever redeem itself! This game is an extreme challenge and should not be played if you don't like punishment. Beating out The Evil Within with a slightly scarier atmosphere and more tension, Alien: Isolation just edges out the rest of the close competition for the month of October.
