Given to us last week in Japanese, the three Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain videos – Diamond Dog, Quiet But Not Silent, and the gameplay demo – are now available for viewing in English.
Also at TGS, Hideo Kojima was interviewed by GameSpot, where he revealed that Quiet won’t be the only person in The Phantom Pain with super powers, adding, “Snake will encounter characters with various types of powers.”
Sticking with Quiet, Kojima said, “The game isn’t linear, so there will be players who meet Quiet and get on good terms with her, and others who won’t.” Since Quiet will only come to Mother Base if certain conditions are met, it’s possible she may never actually join you, and if so, the story will go on without her.
He continued:
Naturally, players who recruit her will be able to enjoy additional episodes with her in the game, but it’s not a requirement. It’s actually possible to make it to the end without Quiet.
Looking at buddies in the game – such as the puppy – Kojima says, “Generally speaking, though, buddies are not critical to the main storyline. Therefore, some players may opt to have no buddies at all. Those people will miss out on special episodes and events that only occur if you have certain buddies on your side, but players are free to choose that path if they like.”
And if one of those buddies happens to die, “They die, and they stay dead. The story goes on without them.” Because of this, “Players cannot control Quiet or other buddies without Snake. Snake is the main character.”
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is set for release in 2015 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC.
