Metro Developer Working on New Game, Will be a “Sand-Box Style Experience”

Metro developer 4A Games has revealed that it’s working on a brand new game which will be “less linear” than its previous titles and more of a “sand-box-style experience.” CTO Oles Shishkovstov said that 4A was working on the unnamed project alongside Metro Redux

We had the production resource free to handle Redux while the next project was in early pre-production. Although now the Redux team are needed on the next project as we ramp up! For the game we are working on now, our designers have shifted to a more sand-box-style experience – less linear but still hugely story-driven. I will not go into details, but it requires some work from programmers as well.

Shishkovstov also said that the developer is working on improving graphics in “very different aspects.” Although Metro Redux hit the 60fps (frames-per-second) mark, 4A’s next game is likely to be 30fps.

Actually for the next unannounced project, the designers want more and more of everything (as usual), and quite possibly we will target 30fps.

I have a feeling some folks will read “30fps” and declare doom before it happens, but it’s too early to say anything since we don’t know what the next game is all about. In the meantime, you can read our review of Metro Redux and yes, that game is at 60fps.
