Polish site thenews.pl reports that a movie based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher fantasy novels is in the pipeline. Apparently, Oscar-nominated director and animator Tomasz Baginski has confirmed that he’s on the case.
It looks like the actual source of this news is a message that appeared on the Polish Film Institute’s website about The Witcher movie. Following this, Platige Image studio, where Baginski is creative director, confirmed the information. Platige Image has previously worked on Antichrist (2009) and Essential Killing (2010) alongside intros to the first two Witcher games. It has also worked on a teaser trailer for CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077.
Back in 2001, a live-action Polish feature film on The Witcher novels (English title: The Hexer) was met with criticism. Sapkowski himself was also critical of the film.
