Update:
Crystal Dynamics’ Head of Studio, Darrell Gallagher, has offered some insight into the decision. The studio believes that Microsoft has faith in the game, and claims that it has vehemently supported the developers. “Today’s announcement with Microsoft is one step to help us put Tomb Raider on top of action adventure gaming,” said Gallagher. He further promised that Crystal Dynamics is not walking away from the other platforms, offering Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris as a consolation. “Those are great systems, with great partners, and amazing communities.”
Original story:
Some sad news for PlayStation owners who were looking forward to the next Lara Croft game; upcoming title Rise of the Tomb Raider is an Xbox exclusive, coming to the console during the holiday season in 2015.
Square Enix unveiled the game during this year’s E3, and like many others, we assumed that it’ll be a multi-platform title, but that’s not the case. The latest gamescom announcement will probably come as a disappointment to many, and I’ve got to be honest, I’m a bit surprised, too. But that’s how competition goes!
It’s quite possible that the game is a timed Xbox exclusive. We’ll await an official word from Square Enix and will update this story once we hear more information.
