Sony Ceases Support for PlayStation Mobile on Android, Wants to Focus on the Vita

Sony has officially withdrawn support for PlayStation Mobile on Android. The project, which was launched in 2012, was designed to allow developers to publish games on the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation-certified Android devices without having to go through the regular certification process.

According to The Verge, the service will continue as normal on Android devices running OS 4.4.2 or below. However, for 4.4.3 and up, Sony is not guaranteeing anything. Devices running Android L will not longer have access to PS Mobile as the company will not be granting certification to any more devices. Developers who were using PS Mobile are now encouraged to focus on the Vita instead.

Sony has previously offered PlayStation One games through PS Mobile, and just late last year, it offered five weeks of free games as well.
