Haemimont Games’s upcoming title Tropico 5 has been banned in Thailand already, and it’s not even released yet. Apparently, the military government thinks that the game’s story “might affect peace and order in the country.” Oh dear!
Tropico 5 allows us to play as a rigid president who rules with an iron fist, controlling media and making his own rules. Unfortunately, this didn’t go down too well with the Thai military. It should be noted that the country’s civilian government was overthrown in a coup and since then, it has been under the military’s dictatorship.
The distributor’s Marketing Manager Nonglak Sahavattanapong said:
In the fifth installment, the storyline has developed further and there might be some part of it that’s not appropriate in the current situation [in Thailand].
What do you make of this? It actually makes me want to play the game.
