Developer Suda 51 has alleged that the controversial Killer is Dead ‘gigolo missions’ were included at the persistence of publisher Kadokawa Shoten.
For those who aren’t familiar with the game or the missions, they involved players convincing women to have sex with them by bribing them with gifts. Suda 51 says that this tacky idea was originally supposed to be a part of 2011 title Shadows of the Damned.
The original concept was you were supposed to give flowers. It was more of a non-erotic mission. Then I got a request from the Japanese publisher saying, ‘We’re going to sell this game in Japan. We need more scandalous stuff.’
Suda 51 further explained that he purposely didn’t make the missions as “easy” as he could have, and that the level of difficulty in the missions reflect that women are strong.
Do you think Suda 51’s justifications mean he acknowledges that the ‘gigolo missions’ were added to the game in poor taste?
