Sony Says 31% of PS4 Owners Owned Only a Wii or Xbox 360 in the Previous Generation

Speaking with Kotaku at E3 this week, Sony Computer Entertainment America VP of Platforms Marketing John Koller referenced a research study, which claimed that 31% of PS4 owners today had a Wii or Xbox 360 in the last generation, but not a PS3. Additionally, the study claims up to 17% of people who own a PS4 didn’t buy a console in the last generation, meaning roughly 48% of PS4 buyers never owned a PlayStation 3!

As for who is buying the PS4 this early in its lifecycle, Koller calls them “the connoisseur:”

The person that we’ve picked up since launch primarily is someone we call the connoisseur, someone that loves, unequivocally, loves games. They are the people who, when you walk in [to their home], there’s no books on their book shelves. They’re all game packages. They’re the people who stood in line at midnight [for the console’s launch]. They really are a fantastic consumer for us. They’re a great part of the PlayStation nation.

Koller also mentioned that they’re seeing a lot of people from the late-adopter crowd (who wait until a console is cheaper) picking up the PS4 already.

What, if any, consoles did you own in the previous generation?
