Clearly people enjoy playing local co-op games more on PS4 than PC or Ouya, as TowerFall developer Matt Thorson told Eurogamer that his game is “actually doing better on PS4, but it’s still doing well on PC. It’s doing definitely well enough for me to support myself for quite awhile. That’s really encouraging.”
Overall, Thorson says TowerFall has grossed $500,000 across PS4, PC, and Ouya, with just 7,000 of those sales coming from Ouya – which is where TowerFall first appeared back in June 2013 before arriving on the other platforms in March 2014. “Being the best game on Ouya isn’t a huge deal, but it is nice. It still sells on there,” Thorson said.
When asked about why he thinks TowerFall has been so much more successful on PS4, Thorson said, “I think it’s just a console game, ya know? People have controllers – it’s not confusing to get the controllers like it is for PC – and people have it in their living rooms already.” He also said that Sony has “featured and promoted it really well.”
Over on Twitter, Thorson added: “Yeah, TowerFall is doing well, but it hasn’t sold close to 500k copies. Hah, that’d be insane.”
