PlayStation Camera Stock Issues are due to a “Miscalculation” by Sony Marketing

At GDC this week, Sony has already talked about how they underestimated the demand for the PlayStation Camera, with the peripheral having a roughly 15% attach rate. Throwing in his two cents about the matter of low PlayStation Camera stock is Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida, who said to Polygon, “It was a total miscalculation by our marketing guys.”

According to Shuhei, the reason for this miscalculation was because the marketing team looked at the PS4 launch titles that supported the Camera, then made projections based on how well they thought those games would sell. However, they didn’t take into account just how popular broadcasting on Twitch would be, which has led to the shortage we have now:

They came up with the initial demand in that conventional way and it was very, very low. Using the camera to broadcast yourself is much, much more fun they they thought and they didn’t quite get it.

More PlayStation Cameras are being made right now, and stock should be appearing in stores very soon.
