BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea Episode 2 Gets 1998 Mode

Irrational Games may now be a radically different company than the one who initially brought out BioShock Infinite last year, but they still have one more release on the horizon – BioShock Infinite’s Burial at Sea Episode 2 DLC on March 25th in North America and March 26th in Europe.

As we’re just one month away from launch, Irrational has detailed that the new DLC will include a difficulty setting known as 1998 Mode, a twist on the 1999 Mode seen in BioShock Infinite. With 1998 Mode in Episode 2, you (playing as Elizabeth) will be challenged to beat the content “using only non-lethal tools.” 1998 Mode will also be joined by the existing difficulty modes and 1999 Mode.

Ken Levine offered up this statement on the new mode:

In Burial at Sea Episode 2 we put a focus on balance and stealth mechanics. As we were developing this new style of gameplay, we started to see people self-impose non-lethal playthrough’s. Given the fan reception of 1999 Mode, we thought it would be cool to give them another way to play Burial at Sea that challenged their mastery of stealth tools.
