Activision may lay claim to the #1 selling PS4 and Xbox One game so far with Call of Duty: Ghosts, but in EA’s Q3 FY14 financials released today, they have revealed that 35% of all Western PS4 and Xbox One software sold in the third quarter belonged to EA titles.
Looking solely at the month of December, EA was the #1 publisher on the PS4 and Xbox One in the West, with Battlefield 4, Madden NFL 25, FIFA 14, and Need for Speed: Rivals (there was no mention of NBA Live 14 anywhere) leading the sales charge. Also in December, FIFA 14 and Battlefield 4 were the 2nd and 3rd best-selling games in West, with FIFA 14 #1 in Europe.
Things aren’t all rosy in the games department though, with PS3 and Xbox 360 sales accounting for $425 million, a drop of 25% compared to last year’s $566 million, and PS4 and Xbox One sales only bringing in $24 million.
For a couple other highlights, FIFA Ultimate Team, Madden NFL Ultimate Team, and NHL Hockey Ultimate Team grew a collective 60% year-over-year, The Simpsons Tapped Out generated over $130 million net revenue through the quarter, and mobile and handheld digital revenue was up 26% year-over-year to $125 million in Q3.
CEO Andrew Wilson provided a brief overview of the financials:
EA’s third quarter marked an exciting start to a new generation of games, and we are proud to have been the #1 publisher on next-generation consoles in December, with millions of gamers across the globe playing EA titles on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. In addition to consoles, our mobile games, digital downloads and live services are growing year-over-year as we continue to deliver exciting new experiences to gamers around the world.
