The Catch-Up: January 13th, 2013 – PS4 Handily Beats Xbox One in Germany; Sledgehammer Hiring for “Next-Gen Call of Duty”

Just when I thought my wallet was safe this month

General News

  • According to research by Media Control GfK, the PlayStation 4 had sold 250,000 units in Germany by the end of 2013, which places it way ahead of the Xbox One’s 100,000 by year’s end. Woo! [Translation, Source]
  • In a recent job listing posted by Sledgehammer games, they list how they’re hiring for someone “on a next-gen Call of Duty game.” This listing is definitely interesting, as it could mean Sledgehammer is helping develop the next Call of Duty title (or maybe the one after that) either in partnership with another studio, or on their own. We probably won’t find out which it is until this year’s new Call of Duty game is revealed, which will likely happen on May 1st. [Via, Source]
  • Not including digital games or accessories, Gfk Chart-Track has reported that UK console and games sales for 2013 were at £605.5 million. £265.4 million from this is from software, and 1.25 million systems were sold just during the month of December. Not bad. [Source]
  • For those of you in the UK looking for a PS4, Amazon.co.uk has them on the site right now for arrival to them on January 25th. [Via, Check It Out]
  • Over the weekend, it was revealed that patch 1.04 for Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate will arrive in February. However, that patch won’t include Marie Rose, who will instead be added in the Spring. [Via, Source]
  • Developer Orange Pixel has confirmed Gunslugs will be released for the PlayStation Vita on February 11th in North America and February 12th in Europe. No word on pricing, so stay tuned as we get closer to launch. [Source]
  • You want to know the DriveClub release date and I want to know the DriveClub release date. Unfortunately, Design Director Paul Rustchynsky said, “We’ve yet to announce a release date, but hopefully we’ll be showing off more of the game soon.” On a similar note, Paul also confirmed that the February 22nd release date for the Japanese version isn’t “accurate.” In fact, “Until there is an official press release please consider all dates to be incorrect.” Looks like we just have to keep waiting. • Also with DriveClub, Paul was asked about Logitech racing wheel support for DriveClub. He replied, “There is currently no driver support from Logitech for the PS4 I’m afraid.” [Twitter]
  • We’ve been waiting some time to see The Amazing Spider-Man 2 game trailer, with Beenox confirming that it’s done and we should expect it soon. [Twitter]
  • Rather than denying its existence (it hasn’t been formally announced), the HBO GO Twitter account said of the HBO GO app on PlayStation, “We do not yet have a confirmed date for the PS3 or PS4 releases but will let you know as soon as it’s announced. Stay tuned!” If/once they reveal a date for the app, we’ll let you know. [Via, Twitter]
