Ubisoft Expects Assassin’s Creed IV to Sell Less Than ACIII, The Crew to Move 2.5 Million Copies; Rayman Legends & Splinter Cell: Blacklist Miss Sales Targets

In a conference call following the delay of The Crew and Watch Dogs and the lowering of their financial outlook yesterday, Ubisoft held a conference call to discuss the company.

Speaking about The Crew was Ubisoft’s CFO, Alain Martinez, where he mentioned that it has “a more limited potential” because of the fact it’s a driving game, while saying that they expect sales of over 2.5 million for the title. “We’ll see where we go and we believe that we have a nice potential for the future,” he added.

As for a title that will be releasing this year, Ubisoft predicts Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (out this month on PS3 and November on PS4) will move more than 10 million copies, which would be less than the 12.5 million seen for Assassin’s Creed III.

After it was noted how they still expect ACIV to be “among the highest performers of the year,” Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot talked about Black Flag:

We expect Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag to be a highly-rated game. Previews have been very positive and the title will again be among the highest performers of the year. We are very confident with the performance of Assassin’s Creed IV and the numbers we have in our model, it is going to be key for the launch of the new consoles this Christmas.

Looking at Rayman Legends and Splinter Cell: Blacklist, which released earlier this year, Martinez revealed that they both underperformed:

As we have said we have experienced lower sales than we anticipated when we gave our targets. Already released games such as Splinter Cell, Rayman, and others.

Do you think Ubisoft is tracking Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag too low? Are you surprised by Rayman Legends and Splinter Cell: Blacklist missing their targets? Let us know in the comments below.
