It was an interesting month of August at retail in the United States, with the NPD reporting $521 million in sales for the industry, an increase of 1% compared to last year.
Looking at software, Madden NFL 25 was at number, though it opened to lower numbers when looking at Madden NFL 13. Despite this, other new releases were able to make it a very good month, with software sales rising 21% to $305 million. As for accessories, they were up 7% at $136.7 million, clearly helped out by the figures and playsets for Disney Infinity, which was the third best-selling games of the month.
Things get bleak when you look at hardware sales though, with a 40% drop to $90.8 million reported. Also, while we don’t know sales numbers for PlayStation systems, the Xbox 360 was the #1 console with 96,000.
