Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Medal of Honor: Warfighter has been banned in Pakistan by ‘The All Pakistan CD, DVD, Audio Cassette Traders and Manufacturers Association’, with stores ordered to remove the offending titles from their shelves, or else.
In a notice translated by Fox News, they explained:
The Association has always boycotted these types of films and games. These (games) have been developed against the country’s national unity and sanctity. The games (Medal of Honor: Warfighter and Call of Duty: ,Black Ops 2) have been developed against Pakistan, and the Association has completely banned their sale. Shopkeepers are warned and will be responsible for the consequences if found purchasing or selling these games.
President of the Association, Saleem Memon, told ‘a foreign news outlet’:
The problem is that there are things that are against Pakistan and they have included criticism of our army. They show the country in a very poor light.
Worst of all, the games are apparently ‘psychological warfare’ designed to convert Pakistani youths to the American-agenda (wait, I thought they were created to train American children to be super-soldiers?). An anonymous Pakistani security official allegedly told Fox News that “these games are an effort to malign the minds of youth against Pakistan.”
Luckily, a lot of stores don’t seem to have received the memo, as the games are still healthily selling in some shops (well, probably just CoD). Plus, rampant piracy means that the spread of these games is very hard to control.
Essentially, all it means is that Pakistan now has a bit of egg on their face… or they would if they could afford the egg, considering egg prices have been skyrocketing in Pakistan.
