Best Racing Game of 2012 Award

Winner: Need for Speed: Most Wanted

Criterion Games found a great recipe for success back in 2008 with arcade racing title Burnout Paradise, giving us a game that still has a strong following today. This year’s Need for Speed: Most Wanted aimed to replicate that success and managed to be spot on. They were able to go even further by using licensed cars such as the Bugatti Veyron and the Koenigsegg Agera R while staying true to the arcade feel.

Criterion created a great new world in Fairhaven City with its very own fictitious police force that will go after you relentlessly. High speed chases against Corvette Interceptors takes on a whole new meaning when you are trying to avoid the spike strips flying out at you while speeding along at 200+ MPH. Outrunning SWAT armored cars is an easy task, but trying to crash through a road block manned by them is borderline impossible… albeit fun to watch.

Had Criterion given us the options to fully customize our cars with flashy decals, paint, ground effects and wheels this game would be in the running for overall GOTY. But since they also brought the exact same experience to the PS Vita, the game is already a double winner so Criterion should be pretty happy with that.

Runners Up:

  • WipEout 2048
  • LBP Karting
  • F1 2012
