Gran Turismo 5 Crosses 9 Million Sold Worldwide, Series Nears 68 Million

Polyphony Digital, the guys behind the popular Gran Turismo series and less popular Tourist Trophy, have revealed brand new sales figures for all of the titles in the racing franchise.

The most recent entry, Gran Turismo 5, has just passed the 9 million mark and sits with a comfortable 9.01 million sold worldwide. Looking at the regional breakdowns though, combined totals for both Gran Turismo 5 and Gran Turismo 5 XL (Academy Edition in Europe) in North America are only 2.31 million. This is way behind the 5.73 million sold in Europe, so you can easily tell where the series is most popular.

Looking at every single Gran Turismo, they have combined to reach 67.89 million sold. The highest selling one to date is Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec on the PlayStation 2 at 14.89 million, with Gran Turismo 4 way behind at 11.6 million.

As for worst selling, that honor goes to Gran Turismo 4 Prologue at 1.4 million, with Gran Turismo Concept Series right behind it at 1.56 million.
