Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions and Spider-Man: Edge of Time developer Beenox is working on a movie tie-in video game for the upcoming Sony film, The Amazing Spider-Man. Activision has revealed the first details about their plans for Marvel Comics’ wall-crawler, including when gamers might get a first glimpse of the game’s action.
The game features a return to the free-roaming, web-slinging action featured in previous Spider-Man movie tie-in games (which were developed by Treyarch). As for other gameplay features, Activision promises the game will feature “evolutionary improvements” to combat and navigation. The game also features a “Web Rush” mechanic, which allow players to pull off moves that have never been possible before.
Story-wise, the game will function as an epilogue, taking place after the events of the film. The story is original and is being worked on by Seamus Kevin Fahey, who worked on episodes of Spartacus: Gods of the Arena as well as Battlestar Galactica.
Gamers will get their first chance to see a full trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man during the Spike TV VGAs, but you can see a teaser trailer below:
The Amazing Spider-Man is currently scheduled for release in the summer of 2012, “tied to” the film.
