Assassin’s Creed star Ezio Auditore’s inclusion to be a guest character in Soulcalibur V was shocking to say the least. And while it wasn’t as big of a surprise as Darth Vader or Yoda in Soulcalibur IV, most people were assuming it would have been a Capcom character due to its rich selection of characters from its fighting games. Ezio, equipped with Soulcalibur-esque weapons such as a longsword and a crossbow does seem to fit in, but why did Namco Bandai choose him over other characters?
Siliconera reported that Namco Bandai wanted to westernize its portfolio and make it broader, according to Vice President of Marketing Carlson Choi.
We wanted to bring in a character that works in the Western world. When you look at where Ubisoft is, especially with Ezio, it brings us in the Western market and gets everyone excited about the game. More importantly, the fighting style is so unique it’s a perfect fit in the Soulcalibur world, which is why we went to seek out Ubisoft.
Choi added.
We have an opportunity to expand in the Western market, vice-versa for them they can get their character in the Eastern market. For both of us, it’s a win-win situation.
Do you think Ezio is a good fit for Soulcalibur V? I guess Assassin’s Creed:Revelations will not be Ezio’s last game.
