Brink Gets Teen Rating From ESRB

While 2011 may be rather over-crowded with first-person shooters, Splash Damage’s Brink aims to set itself apart with innovative drop-in and out multiplayer that should provide “hundreds of hours” of gameplay. With a release this May, the ESRB have rated the game, listing it as Teen and giving a brief summary of the title.

The Electronic Software Rating Board have listed Brink, and rated the game as “Teen”. In comparison, Black Ops received a Mature rating, along with Killzone 3 and Homefront.

This is a first-person shooter in which players assume the role of soldiers fighting for control of a futuristic city. Players use assault rifles, shotguns, grenades, and mines to kill enemy soldiers and complete team-based objectives (e.g., defending locations and collecting items). The frenetic combat is accompanied by realistic gunfire, large explosions, and cries of pain. Blood effects occur when soldiers are shot, and they remain on the ground when defeated; players have the ability to shoot dead characters, resulting in brief splashes of blood. The words ‘sh*t’ and ‘bastard’ can be heard in the dialogue.
