With a plot written by Red Dawn author and Apocalypse Now co-author, John Milius, Kaos Studios’ Homefront aims to spice up the first person shooter genre with a game that actually has a gripping plot, and that will stimulate your emotions – although probably not to a great enough degree to please David Cage. It now looks like publisher THQ’s gamble at trying to push a new IP in a crowded genre will pay off, with the title already breaking sales records.
Homefront has sold over 200,000 copies in the United States on pre-orders alone, making the game THQ’s most pre-ordered title ever, even though there are still 2 weeks until the title’s release.
Talking to Eurogamer, THQ Core Games VP Danny Bilson revealed the incredible figures, but despite the promising numbers, the future of developer Kaos Studios remains uncertain. Currently, THQ are considering relocating the entirety of the Kaos staff to Montreal, Canada from New York.
I tell them the more successful a game is, the better the economics are for the franchise, and that will help to influence what we do. So we haven’t made any decisions at the moment. That’s the truth. We’re going to look at how it goes. We don’t want to relocate people just to relocate people.
A lot of it has to do with how successful it is and how strong that core team comes out on the other side. I love those guys. I’ve worked very closely with them on this game for years. There’s nothing disrespectful going on at all. We’re trying to do what’s best for everyone.
Homefront releases on March 18th for PS3, 360 and PC.
