Historically, the PlayStation brand has always played host to the largest variety of unique, compelling titles. The future is no different, as the best titles are yet to come. Though it wasn’t an easy task, we’ve managed to narrow down the top 20 upcoming PS3 exclusives, that are ready to grace the console.
After the belated release of Yakuza 3 outside of Japan and its relatively decent sales thereafter, Sega finally decided to listen to their devoted fans and schedule Yakuza 4 for a Western release as well. Peering into the life of the Japanese underworld, players step into the shoes of Kazuma Kiryu, and for the first time, other men of the Japanese streets. A staple of the Japanese gaming scene, Yakuza 4 looks to definitely be a worthy title in the repertoire of any PlayStation Japanophile this coming spring.
Agent, Rockstar North’s next PS3 exclusive, is set in the late 1970’s during the height of the Cold War, putting players in the middle of a “world of counter-intelligence, espionage, and political assassination.” Although it was revealed at Sony’s 2009 E3 press conference, no information has surfaced since its announcement. But if Gran Turismo 5 is any indication, long development times are needed to set a game above the rest of the pack.
As one of the PlayStation Move’s most anticipated titles of 2010, The Fight: Lights Out definitely will show off the full capabilities of Sony’s motion controller. Set in the dirty alleys of the city, it is your mission to fight your way to become the king of the underground brawling circuit. Using the Move’s one-to-one motion sensing technology, players will use their full range of motion to punch, head butt, and all-out annihilate the opposition.
If you have been hungry, like myself, for more PixelJunk Shooter since its release last year, then the sequel will more than make up for the long wait. With an all-new competitive online mode, a more competitive single-player campaign and many more intriguing additions to PixelJunk Shooter 2; this sequel is shaping up to be a fresh and exciting new experience for gamers.
Sly Cooper, Bentley, and Murray are essentially the Three Musketeers of the PlayStation 2. With a highly established fan base and a strong following for the Sly Cooper trilogy, and given the positive response for the God of War Collection, a massive demand went out to the re-release of Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonous and its subsequent sequels on the PlayStation 3. As such, Sony Computer Entertainment ratified the Sly Cooper Collection. Remastered in HD with 3D support, all three Sly Cooper titles are set for release on the PS3 this fall for the price of $39.99.
Journey, the latest creation from the minds of flOw and Flower‘s thatgamecompany, seems to once again reinvent storytelling. Exploring the vast sandy landscapes of a “mysterious civilization,” players can travel alone or with friends to unravel mysteries and experience life from a near-powerless state unlike any before.
The interesting prospect of having a one-to-four player cooperative, online/offline, drop-in/drop-out Ratchet & Clank title will come to life in the form of Insomniac Games’ Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One. Ratchet, Clank, Captain Qwark and Dr. Nefarious all playable via friends and family is why we love Insomniac; they manage to keep dramatically improving all the latest titles in their PlayStation franchises. The feeling of fighting through action-filled battles with other players awaits us come 2011.
