Company of Heroes Lead Designer Sacrifices Life for Family

This is certainly something that we wish we didn’t have to report, but this past Friday the world lost a great man in Brian Wood, lead designer for Company of Heroes at Relic Entertainment, in a tragic accident.

The accident happened as Brian and his wife Erin, seven months pregnant, were driving to a family residence in Washington state, when an out of control Chevy Blazer came careening toward them on the road. In an unfathomable act of heroism and courage, Brian swerved his Subaru wagon, attempting to take the brunt of the crash and save his wife and unborn child. The force of the accident caused the Blazer to propel over Brian’s car, crushing the front portion of the car’s roof, fatally wounding him. Erin suffered minor head injuries and is now recovering.

Erin Wood had the following to say regarding Brian’s passing:

He was the most amazing warm-hearted man you would ever meet who loved his job, loved his family, and was just my rock.

I am not quite sure how I am supposed to live the rest of my life without him. He truly was a gift and I wouldn’t change a thing of any of our moments together.

… in his final act he did the only thing that would save us.

The driver of the Blazer was apparently trying to change her sweater, while her friend in the passenger’s seat attempted to steer, which lead to the accident. Two males in the back-seat of the Blazer were killed with the driver and passenger suffering some broken bones and minor injuries. Police are also indicating that those in the Blazer were under the influence of various drugs, evidence of which were found at the scene. The driver is facing charges of vehicular homicide and assault, while the woman in the passenger’s seat is still being investigated.

We at PlayStation LifeStyle would like extend our deepest sympathies to Brain’s family and friends, as the very title for the games he was developing seems to serve as more of a description of his actions, rather than a mere video game.
