Ubisoft Shoots Down Splinter Cell Conviction PS3, Again

A problem with third-party exclusive titles, is that not only do they cause fanboy wars, but they also begin rumors that can last months. Case in point: Splinter Cell: Conviction is the latest title to receive this special treatment, being console exclusive on Xbox 360 (also available on PC). This has begun rumors of an eventual release on PlayStation 3, with Ubisoft taking them down one by one. If you’d like another confirmation of the title’s exclusivity, then you’re in luck, as Ubisoft has done it yet again.

Splinter Cell: Conviction creative director Max Beland has reconfirmed that the title will not be coming to PS3. Beland states that Splinter Cell: Conviction will remain “exclusive” on Xbox 360, with no release on PlayStation 3.

Well, Splinter Cell was originally built on Xbox and we’ve had a great relationship with Microsoft. So Conviction is an exclusive for 360, it’s not going to go to PS3, and that’s interesting because it gives us some advantages. Our lead programmer was talking about it the other day and he said that when you’re focusing only on one platform you can really fine-tune everything for that platform. He gave the analogy of a race car – you could build a car to do Indy, Nascar and F1 but it probably wouldn’t win races in any of those. If you want to win the race you need to focus on one.

Although the latest Splinter Cell title isn’t coming to PS3, the next title might. Beland can’t answer, but thinks there is no reason why not:

Now, are we going to see the next versions of Splinter Cell on other platforms? That I can’t answer, but there’s no reason why we wouldn’t go on other platforms. And other versions of Splinter Cell have been on multiple platforms.
