Lord of the Rings Brings the War to the North

Last year, a trademark was unearthed by internet sleuth Superannuation, for a possible new Lord of the Rings game, titled War in the North. However, nothing was said since then. Until now, that is.

Lord of the Rings hasn’t been “tight” with gamers for quite some time now. The latest entry into the videogame series, Lord of the Rings: Conquest, was reviewed poorly and failed commercially. A cancelled title, Lord of the Rings: The White Council, was delayed indefinitely, and actually sounded good.

Now, Lord of the Rings may get back into gamers’ hearts with the announcement of Lord of the Rings: War in the North. The game is in development at Snowblind Studios, who developed Champions of Norrath and Justice League: Heroes. LOTR: War in the North will be an online co-op RPG, supporting four-player participation in the war of the north, with “unseen lands, story elements and characters from Middle-earth.”

Lord of the Rings: War in the North is set for release in 2011. According to Joystiq, the title will be fully revealed in the next issue of PlayStation: Official Magazine.
