PS3 Review – Buzz! Quiz World

feature-Buzz

The reason this is a real issue, is because your name becomes a profile, which the game then uses to learn your strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes. So if I wanted the game to more frequently suggest the categories I prefer, I’d have to suffer through more annoying yells of a nickname I despise. I’d have gladly given up this new feature to be able to input any name, the same way Buzz! Quiz TV offered.

After you’ve input your name, you pick a character, you pick a sound effect from your buzzer, and you let the quiz begin. The game uses “buzzers” instead of PS3 controllers, to buzz in, as well as select from 4 different answers by pressing one of the 4 colored buttons. The buzzers are part of what makes the game great, and is also part of the game’s mainstream success. The buzzers are very user-friendly, anyone, even someone who never picked up a console game controller in their life will have no time using the buzzer.

The game comes with 4 buzzers with a wireless USB receiver, or as a standalone game for those who already own a set of buzzers. Although even if you do already own a set of buzzers, you may want to still pick up a second set along with the game, because Buzz! Quiz World now lets you plug in two wireless receivers to connect a total of 8 buzzers. 8 buzzers in the hands of 8 “buzzed” friends or family members makes for one hell of a party.

The game is fun for all ages, but has a very “kiddy” look to the character models. But don’t be fooled, as there is plenty of mature content. So much so, that when the game boots up for the first time you’ll be asked if you’d like to shut of objectionable mature content. Buzz! cracks plenty of jokes that only adults will get. One example of this happened when we selected the category toys and games. To which Buzz muttered “so that’s what you do with all your spare time”. This brings a level of humor to the game, that will increase the overall enjoyment, especially if you’re playing with friends.

There are 10 chief categories, and each one is broken down further into more specific themed questions. The game features over 5000 questions, so you likely wont see the same twice. Also, it’s important to note that if you’ve purchased downloadable add-on packs from the PlayStation Store for Buzz! Quiz TV, you’ll be able to play them in this new Buzz!

MyBuzz

Another way to expand the questions you’re present with is to write your own using MyBuzzQuiz.com, or just opt to play other users created MyBuzz quizzes. If you don’t have any friends, or just so happen to be alone and want to get your Buzz! on, you can also play online. Even better, if you do have friends over, you can play online Sofa Vs. Sofa style to challenge another living room full of buzzers.

With so much to do, it’s easy to see that Buzz! Quiz World is fun for everyone of all ages. The questions range from moronically simple, to quite difficult. The variety of game modes, along with over 5000 questions keep things fresh every time you fire up the game. Buzz! Quiz World offers nothing ground-breaking that makes it a must buy if you already own Buzz! Quiz TV, but if you’re new to the series Buzz! Quiz World is the way to go.
