With GamesCom just hours away, it’s been hard to sift through the mountains of rumors, teasers, and leaks leading up to the high profile game convention. But one particular rumor regarding an overhaul of the PlayStation Network has suddenly gained traction due to an official announcement from Sony.
The rumor states that we’ll have a new type of service available on PSN once it comes back online. Adding credence to this matter is the fact that the scheduled maintenance takes place during the GamesCom convention. According to the PlayStation Support page:
“The PlayStation®Network will be taken offline for maintenance on August 18, 2009 from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM PST. We apologize for any inconvenience.
During this time you may:
- Not be able to access the PlayStation®Store
- Not be able to play online games
- See a maintenance page when attempting to access the PlayStation Network”
