Ever since we seen the E3 FFVII tech demo, PlayStation fans all over have been begging for a remake to the classic RPG blockbuster Final Fantasy VII.
Originally released for the PlayStation in 1997, it has went on to sell over 10 million copies. There have been many releases in what SquareEnix calls “The Compilation of Final Fantasy VII” including Dirge of Cerberus, Crisis Core, and the CGI movie Advent Children. None of which have lived up to the standard the original has set.
With FFVII passing its 10th year anniversary, now would be the right time to do a remake, considering the graphical leap that the PS3 offers over the original PlayStation, and the huge consumer demand.
This would help SquareEnix obviously financially, but it would also bring back the fans of the traditional turn-based JRPGs of the past. A Remake would also help Sony as FFVII is definitely a console seller.
Many things point to a remake being on its way… The tech demo, the Crisis Core ending, even a statement that Kaz Harai made from the Final Fantasy 10th Anniversary Gallery in Tokyo… “Congratulation on 10 fantastic years! The best has yet to come”
Recently there has been rumors of a “Big Sony announcement at E3” my very best guess would be that Square Enix is developing a FFVII remake. Nothing could be a bigger announcement than that.
Only time will tell.
